Dear
Friends,
The Texas Law Democrats
have spent the past year working to put our values into action, and we share
with Democrats nationwide the satisfaction of knowing that the product of our
aggregate efforts was an electoral success that resounded up and down the
ballot. The opportunity to be a part of this historic change was also a chance
to reaffirm some important practical lessons about our civic life: namely, that
smart Democratic activism can result in seemingly-improbable victories, and that
electoral progress translates into meaningful change that we can see day to day.

Our mission at TLD is to
connect the talents and energies of law students with the world of Democratic
politics and
policy. Through direct activism, networking, and placement assistance for
interns and volunteers, we emphasize the advancement of individual students
through service and experience. The 2009-2010 academic year will see primary
elections for Texas statewide offices and a possible special election to fill a
vacant U.S. Senate seat; plenty of work remains to be done.
With all of the pressures
and obligations of being a law student, I know that it is tempting to think that
one’s chance to make a difference in the community could wait until after
graduation. Yet, I would urge each of you not to defer action where your values
call you to get involved. I look forward to seeing you at TLD this year.
Sincerely,
Nick Reed, Chairman |
